In this article I would like to introduce you to forex and explain what does it mean and how it works. As you might know, forex stands for foreign exchange, often also called FX. What you do in forex trading is you buy one currency, while selling another one in the same time. So basically, you are exchanging the currency you have sold for the one you are buying.

In forex you trade currencies in pairs, for example Euro with US dollar (EUR/USD) or US Dollar and Japanese Yen (USD/JPY). There is no centralized exchange for forex. All the transactions happen over the phone or the Internet.
Why People Trade Currencies?
Turnover of daily world’s currencies comes from two sources:
1. Foreign trade (5%). Companies buy and sell products and services in foreign countries, plus they money they made from sales into their local currency.
2. Speculation for profit (95%)
Most of the forex traders concentrate on the biggest and powerful currencies in the world, sometimes also called “The Majors”. These currencies include US Dollar, Japanese Yen, Euro, British Pound, Swiss Franc, Canadian Dollar and Australian Dollar. It’s a fact that more than 80% of all forex transactions happen with these major currencies.

Almost anyone who has heard about forex, he/she knows that forex is the most traded market in the world. It has an average daily turnover or $3.2 trillion. Forex is a 24-hour market from Sunday 5 PM ET to Friday 5 PM ET. It begins in Sydney, and moves around the world as the business days come. First to Tokyo, London, and New York.
Compared to other financial markets, forex traders can react immediately to currency fluctuations, without the matter when they occur, at day or night.
